More details about the Deanery Festival/Conference 2017
We are very pleased to be able to give you some more information about the Exarchate UK Deanery Conference and Festival for 2017, which is being planned for the 26th to 29th May 2017 at High Leigh Conference Centre, Lord Street, Hoddesdon EN11 8SG.
The costs will be as for this year - £230 for en suite, and £200 for non en suite.
The theme will be, 'Let us attend! Attentiveness to the Word of God in prayer and everyday life'.
The speakers and their talks will be as follows -
- Mary Cunningham - 'Learning to listen: what do we hear?'
- Dr Elena Narinskaya - 'Revelation and Scripture: Nature and Incarnation in the writings of St Ephrem the Syrian'
- Metropolitan Kallistos of Diokleia - 'Attentiveness in Orthodox prayer and worship'
- Fr Porphyrios (Plant) - 'Internalised experience and external reality'
- Protodeacon Peter Scorer - 'Metropolitan Evlogii and the beginnings of the Archdiocese'
The workshops being planned will be as follows -
- 'Ikons of the Mother of God' (no previous skills required) - 2 sessions led by Patsy Fostiropoulos
- A discussion of the talks - 2 sessions, one led by Mary Cunningham with Dr Elena Narinskaya, and the other by Fr Porphyrios
- 'Deacon's and Reader's duties' - 2 sessions, one led by Protodeacon Peter and the other by Fr Patrick Hodson
- 'Making a prayer rope' - 1 session led by Monk Basil
- 'Safeguarding vulnerable parishioners' - 1 session led by Tina Lowe
- 'Pilgrimage: saints and sacred spaces' - 1 session lid by Vivian Wright
- 'The Great Council' - 1 session led by Fr Alexander Fostiropoulos
- The Children's Programme - including a programme for ages 11 to 17 years - will run as usual.
There should be time and space to chat with friends - a bar is one of the facilities! - as well as our very enjoyable party on Sunday night: so, if you have never been to one of these events, why not make next year's event your first!'
