Saint Anne's Orthodox parish, Northampton Patronal Festival 2011 Sat 10th Dec.
A sublime evening of choral music in the beautiful, candle-lit setting of a 10th century church will end a day of festivities at Holy Sepulchre Church, Sheep St, Northampton, the home of St Anne's Orthodox Christian parish. The 10th of December marks the Feast of the Conception of the Mother of God by Saint Anne, our patron and His Eminence Archbishop GABRIEL of Comana and Western Europe will attend a Hierarchical Divine Liturgy to ordain James Burns to the diaconate, commencing at 11am. At 3pm Great Vespers will be sung.
At 7pm, the concert will given this year by members of the Youth Choir of the Orthodox Fellowship of St John the Baptist, and St Anne's parish choir. The core of the concert will be the Akathist (Standing Hymn) in Praise of God's Creation, written by Metropolitan Tryphon Turkestanov in 1934. It is the Akthist that is sung on the 1st of September each year during prayers for the preservation of the environment, instituted by Patriarch Bartholomew in 1989. Other selections from Orthodox church music will be sung, and some folk songs from around the world.
