For some 50 years summer camps have been organised for children aged 9 - 16 from our parishes and communities around the UK. For a number of years now it has been run on a site in South Wales at Dyffryn Ganol, near Crickhowell in the Brecon Beacons. It is an ideal location for a campsite; a small, flat field nestled in a valley between the mountains. Alongside the field runs a stream where the children can safely wash and play.

This is real camping! There are no buildings on the site and everyone sleeps in tents, with up to six children of the same gender and similar age in each tent. Three large marquees serve as the kitchen, dining hall and activities area, while another holds the chapel where everyone gathers for prayers first thing in the morning and last thing at night. This is also where the Liturgy is celebrated for the feast of the Transfiguration.
This summer the camp is 11 days long all filled with various activities which are planned and supervised by the camp leaders. Activities include the Blessing of the Camp, discussions on church life and faith, visit to the nearby well shrine of St Issui, the celebration of the Divine Liturgy, walks, Camp Olympics, Theme Days, swimming, football, volleyball and other games, arts and crafts, music, dancing, sketches and bonfires.
Campers look after and tidy their tents, carry out their share of common chores, but also play together, perform sketches and join in with all activities on offer.
The camp is under the pastoral care of Father Alexander Fostiropoulos, assigned to this task by our Archbishop. The camp activities are run by a team of leaders who have attended the camp themselves, many from an early age. A group of dedicated adult volunteers (clergy and lay) assist, either full or part- time, in the kitchen, administration, church teaching, the management of the safety and hygiene of the site with a further team of volunteers who help set- up and pack-up the camp. The resident personnel undergo statutory checks and there are First Aiders present.
More volunteers always welcome to help set-up and pack-up the camp. Please contact Father Alexander or Deacon Philip if you are interested!
A limited number of partial bursaries may be available for those in need, through each family’s own parish. The fee does not include transport to and from the camp. Transport to and from the camp is the responsibility of parents. However, we will make every effort to coordinate arrangements between families. In previous years at least 2 responsible adults have accompanied a group of children on the train from London to (and back from) the camp.
To apply for a place, please complete and submit the application form. Once places have been allocated, you will be sent further details, including a list of required clothing and equipment. If you have any questions, including enquiries about transport, feel free to contact:
