Archbishop Gabriel laid to rest

The funeral of Archbishop Gabriel was held on Saturday 3 November at the St Alexander Nevsky Cathedral in Paris.  The service was conducted by Metropolitan Emanuel with two Romanian bishops and many clergy and laity in attendance.

The funeral of Archbishop Gabriel will take place on Saturday 2 November 2013. It will commence with the celebration of a pontifical Divine Liturgy at 8.00 am, in the St Alexander Nevsky Cathedral.

Vigil for Archbishop Gabriel

The coffin of our dearly beloved Archbishop Gabriel will arrive at the St Alexander Nevsky Cathedral on Wednesday 30 October between 3.00 and 4.00 pm. Upon its arrival, a panikhida will immediately be celebrated.

Archbishop Gabriel of Comana fell asleep in the Lord just after midnight in the early hours of this morning Saturday 26 October.

Procedure for the election of the new Archbishop

Visit to the Patriarchate by a delegation from the Archdiocesan Council

On 27 August a delegation from the Archdiocesan Council led by His Eminence Metropolitan Emmanuel of France, and consisting of the Fathers Jean Gueit, Vice President of the  Archdiocesan Council, Fr Alexander  Fostiropoulos, Michel Sollogoub, Sectretary of the Council and Serge Runge, visited the see of the Ecumenical Patriarchate in Istanbul where it was received by the Commission for Inter-Orthodox Affairs and subsequently by His Holiness Patriarch Bartholemew.

The Archdiocesan Council met on Wednesday, 31 July, 2013 under the chairmanship of His Eminence Metropolitan Emmanuel. Among the issues discussed:

1. His Eminence Metropolitan Emmanuel reported on his recent trip to Russia and Ukraine, where he was invited to head the delegation of the Ecumenical Patriarchate to the celebration of the 1025th anniversary of the Baptism of the "Russ".

His Eminence Metropolitan Emmanuel has been recently notified by the Secretary-General of the Holy Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, the Very Rev. Archimandrite Bartholemew, that the Holy Synod has entrusted him with provisional responsibility for the Exarchate, in accordance with the request for this in the letter of 6 April following the Diocesan Assembly in Paris on 30 March 2013.
